Senator Tartaglione will join the students, families and staff at Sheppard Elementary School to celebrate a new grant that will enable families to gain computer and Internet access.
Currently, the Information Technology and Society's Research Group (ITSRG) serves as a community partner for the Sheppard Parent Empowerment Project. ITSRG provides the staff to run the computer training programs available to the families.
Six Temple undergraduates from the ITSRG staff work as Spanish translators and technology trainers for the program. ITSRG staff assist with weekly trainings at the school, home visits and provides computer phone support to families.
This new grant from from the Pennsylvania Department of Education allows every 3rd and 4th grader at Sheppard Elementary School to receive a new Apple iMac computer along with Internet access from Wireless Philadelphia.
The reception begins at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday April 24 at Sheppard Elementary School.
